- He called me Anne Kay sometimes....I liked it.
- He was on his way to the temple with family names in his pocket when he died.
- He loved the temple, and loved serving there.
- He did his home teaching the night before he passed away.
- He helped me paint "my" cemetery fence, because he knew and cared about "our people." (and because he wasn't too old)
- His voice is the voice I hear every time I read anything by Dr. Seuss.
- My earliest memory of him is him holding me and reading Dr. Seuss with me, I think I memorized Hop on Pop just for him.
- He made the yummiest waffles you ever ate.
- He was the nicest babysitter I ever had.
- He was always so very happy to be with family, it was visible and contagious.
- He always remembered and asked about something going on in my life, it made me feel important.
- He loves my silly, crazy Grandma.
- He never turned down an opportunity to serve others or to help someone in need.
- He was a Marine in World War II, but would never talk about what he did, or what it was like. Because he did it because it was the right thing to do, and he was no better than anyone else who did what they had to do to.
- I never heard him say anything bad about anyone, ever.
- He loves my mom, and he is a good dad to her. He gave her a happy life, and taught her what was important, and gave her lots of love. She shared those things with us so we could be happy too.
- He tried lots of crazy things, like flying an airplane, and hiking scary mountains, because he was never too old to try new things.
- He was a selfless, patient caregiver, to lots of people. His service to them impacted a lot of people's lives.
- He liked to fish.
- He is the best example of humility, sacrifice, and service that I could ever hope to have or follow.
Covenants / Covenant Keeping August 12-19, 2018 This week I decided to study about covenants and being a covenant keeping person. My goal while I’m at law school is to balance my secular education with a spiritual education. Personal study, other than while I was serving on my mission, has never been consistent. I love to learn and read about the gospel but I’m not always as dedicated to it as I should be. I guess you could say I was hoping I could make a small kind of covenant with the Lord that if I would dedicate sometime each day to study His words and teachings that He’ll somehow help me to make it through what’s ahead at law school. I’ll let you know how it goes. Covenants have been on my mind off and on for the last year. Sister Wendy Nelson, President Nelson’s (the Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) wife, came and spoke to a large group of women in our area last year and the main focus of her message was about being “covenant keeping women.”...
