The Year in Review: Part 1

September - December 2011

September:  Had a quick weekend trip to Vegas for a National ABPA Board Meeting, never left the hotel, barely left the meeting rooms.  The President appointed me as the Magazine Committee Chair, despite my refusing it twice.

October: Joey and Dad had wonderful birthdays.  President Cook, my former basketball coach and Stake President, spoke in General Conference, my Sunday School class had a party and watched it with me.

You can watch it here. http://youtu.be/znvTtWYWvtM

Wendy and I played our favorite form of lottery, and lost in more ways than one.

Had a fun Halloween, Ray and Amee brought Aiden to our Ward trunk or treat, he was the cutest dinosaur anyone had ever seen.  Due to Wendy and I being so inactive, socially, in the ward, everyone thought we were the visitors and Ray and Amee and Aiden blended right in.

November: November was the most exciting month ever.  Remember my friend Ana?

She had a baby!!!!  Gavin was born November 12, only 20 minutes shy of being born on the 13th.  I sat in the waiting room anxiously until he came and got to stay with him in the nursery while they checked him out and gave him his first bath. My first sobrino latino, and he's absolutely perfect. (on a side note I also killed a mouse the night Gavin was born, it was horrid, Hurley is a terrible mouse hunter)

Ana's mom flew in a couple of days later and we spent lots of time together the first week.  Apparently from my visit in March my ability to communicate in Spanish was pathetic. We spent 30 minutes looking for soap and bread, until I realized she wanted to get some soup. =)  Ana's mom is wonderful, and one of my most favorite people.

I tried a new wonderful recipe for rolls http://allrecipes.com/recipe/quick-yeast-rolls/Detail.aspx?src=ShareOnFacebook&recipeID=13827.  They're fast and delicious.

And I killed my Kindle.  Less than one year old, it couldn't keep up with me. Amazon sent me a fast replacement, which was put to use immediately.

A few weeks later they all came and spent Thanksgiving with my family it was a lot of fun, and everyone thought Gavin was the most guapo chico they'd ever seen.

In the spirit of thanksgiving a week after the holiday I had a first in dealing with upset customers, someone threatened to use their water meter as a toilet, maybe not in that nice of terms. A thorough inspection of the meter the next day proved he was full of crap, pun intended.

December: I quickly learned to love to visit Ana's as often as possible, Selma makes the yummiest Mexican food around. My favorite this trip was the gorditas, there is a better word for it but I'm not going to guess how to spell it because last time I did, it brought up pictures on Google that somehow didn't get caught in the parent filter. =O

Marlie was baptized by her dad, my brother, Jimmy.  It was an exciting night, she was super happy.

We also had a wild home invasion.  Wendy opened our front door to get something, and apparently a bird had taken roost in our wreath.  It decided to come inside out of the cold and hilarity ensued as Wendy and Hurley chased it around the house until we trapped it in my bathroom.  The bird left a special present on our tv, it was like 3D without the glasses.    There must be something about the wreath, another...or the same one?....was napping in there again, but luckily we got the door shut before it broke in again.

Ana, Gavin and Selma all came to visit us on Christmas eve, the four of us went to midnight Mass in Ogden, which is beautiful, and the priest was a character. My favorite part of their visit, besides holding Gavin, was my grandma being so nice to Selma and trying so hard to talk to her and help her feel welcome. Some how they talked about all kinds of things, and even found a common interest in knitting.

An exciting end to an exciting year.....

Sugar.

I felt like making a special tribute to Sugar, my long time friend. From a very young age I began a relationship with this delightful substance. My mother would add Karo syrup to my formula, and we haven't been parted since. I think to say that I love sugar is an understatement. I love water, I love hotdogs, but Sugar?...I can't survive without it. Although avoiding diabetes could be impossible, I can't resist. Whether it's a brownie for breakfast, a little sugar packet while waiting for food at the restaurant, or what ever misc. sugar laced deliciousness I eat in my sleep I just can't let go. I can't say that I've never tried to stop, to break the connection that we have. It was a terrible experience, that left people wondering if I was really a coke addict (not the beverage). So our relationship will be life long, its either all or none of us, we'll go down together. Here's to you sugar, and your secret powers to brighten every day.

Summer Project #1 - The Hydrant Sprinkler

So, I recently took after my sisters and made a lengthy list.  Mine is of house projects I would like to do, or save up for (is more realistic).  My first project was to move my birthday present from Jeremy, a Pacific State fire hydrant, from my patio so we wouldn't be the junk yard neighbors. Birthday Present 2010 Pre Make Over Although it was a good looking hydrant before I started working on it, our patio is only 10' and it was a little out of place, and in the way. A little TLC is understatement.  I took the entire hydrant apart (hydrant anatomy lesson post forthcoming), drilled new holes in different pieces, greased it up, repainted it, designed and implemented a new plumbing system and........ VOILA!!! I had a brand new sprinkler for our flower bed/veggie garden.  Note:  there are three sprinklers built into the hydrant, which I might have connected to our landscape sprinkler system without permission from the HOA.  Also n...

I Hate Disneyland

It's true. Although this, my third time, was much more successful than preceding visits. Honestly, the first day was almost a success until I was tricked into riding the elevator to hell. Straight to hell. I know that you can't wait to read how I really feel about it. Here are my thoughts on the "Magical Kingdom". A. Its full of people, thousands and thousands of people. Let's face it I can't even go to Target on a Saturday without getting a little angry. 2. Germs. You can't have thousands of people without billions of germs crawling on things from unwashed hands, sneezing, coughing, throwing up, etc. III. Walking. I appreciate a nice brisk walk now and then, but 20 miles later the appreciation start to wane, just slightly. Q. Strollers. I hate strollers, it makes me shiver just to think about it. Although, I might change my opinion on strollers if next time someone pushes me in one. In conclusion, I love Space Mountain, I want to ride it every day 15 ti...
